Non Toxic Convertible Car Seats Are a Thing!
When it became time (okay way past time) for our 22 month old daughter Channing to graduate out of her Britax infant car seat into a convertible car seat, we realized there was so much more to research than how the car seat would hold up in a potential car accident. All of a sudden, we were researching the toxic chemicals manufacturers were using in order to pass government regulations despite the fact these chemicals have been linked to CANCER!
Most Car Seats Sprayed in TOXIC Flame Retardants
In order to meet government flammability standards, car seats (and most baby gear and even baby pajamas!) are doused in highly TOXIC flame retardants. “Exposure to halogenated (brominated or chlorinated) flame retardants have been associated with a wide range of impacts on animals and humans. These include immunotoxicity, reproductive toxicity, endocrine disruption, impairment of fetal and child development, interference in thyroid, liver, and neurological function, and cancer.” – Ecology Center
Clek Foonf 2017 – A Non toxic Convertible Car Seat that’s Greenguard Certified??
After an exhausting search for what I thought would be a simple car seat purchase (ha!), I kept coming back to the Clek Foonf 2017 model. It almost seemed to good to be true other than it’s slightly higher price tag which I was more than happy to pay if it was truly “non toxic”. The Clek Foonf was the only non-toxic convertible car seat I found that was also Greenguard Certified.
The GREENGUARD Certification Program (formerly known as GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification) gives assurance that products designed for use in indoor spaces meet strict chemical emissions limits, which contribute to the creation of healthier interiors. Achieving GREENGUARD Certification gives credence to manufacturers’ sustainability claims, backing them with empirical scientific data from an unbiased, third-party organization. –greenguard.org
In this un-boxing video of our brand new Clek Foonf, we talk first impressions, installation, and Channing’s overall opinion of her new upgrade. I also share my trick for neutralizing chemicals out of ALL baby gear (which works on furniture too) as an extra safety precaution.
